Henry M. Munger, professor emeritus of plant breeding in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has been awarded the Luther Burbank Award from The American Horticultural Society. The award recognizes extraordinary achievements in the field of plant breeding.

Munger received the award at the group's annual meeting in St. Louis on May 30. The society recognized his contribution to the efforts on disease resistance and methods of producing hybrid seeds for food such as onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash and melons.

Munger is the first living person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Society of Horticulture Science.
