Honoring their former teacher

Following a chemical engineering symposium in his honor Oct. 15 in Olin Hall, retiring Cornell Professor Ferdinand Rodriguez, second from right, meets with some of his former doctoral students, from left: Carl V. Zvanut, Ph.D. '77, with Air Products & Chemicals of Allentown, Pa.; Robert Givey, M.S. '60, Rodriguez's first graduate student who, after many years with Foster-Wheeler Corp., is an independent consultant in Bethlehem, Pa.; and Steven Fruh, Ph.D. '68, who retired last year from Exxon and lives in Manhattan. Rodriguez is retiring after 41 years of teaching polymers and other chemical engineering courses and conducting research on the synthesis, properties and applications of polymers. The symposium featured talks by Cornell graduates who are experts in the field of chemical engineering. Charles Harrington/University Photography
