José G. Plumey recently joined the management staff of the Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico, a National Science Foundation-funded research center managed by the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center at Cornell. As business manager, Plumey oversees human resources, accounting, cafeteria and various other staff and visitor-support services. Plumey reports to Observatory Director Sixto González and initially will be working to strengthen visitor support services. Most recently, Plumey worked as a private human resource and general management consultant in Puerto Rico. He served as director of human resources for Westinghouse for more than 20 years.

Barbara Romano has been named the interim director of the newly organized service area for Residential, Community Center and Event Services (RCCES) within the Campus Life department of Cornell's division of Student and Academic Services. In this position, Romano (who had been serving as assistant director) will direct the operational, program, service, financial, marketing and supervisory functions of all subunits within RCCES, including community center operations, conference services and the housing/dining office. She is responsible for providing vision, direction and leadership in the management and development of RCCES, which provides a wide array of services to students, faculty, staff, alumni, conference guests and visitors to campus. Romano has been with Cornell for more than 20 years, including the last nine in conference service management with Campus Life. Romano has an associate's degree in culinary arts from Johnson and Wales University and a bachelor's degree in hotel tourism management from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
