The Cornell and Ithaca-area communities can help others cope with the oncoming cold by contributing new and used clothing to the 12th annual Share the Warmth campaign.

Scheduled to run on campus Monday, Nov. 15, through Friday, Dec. 3 -- and throughout the Ithaca area through Dec. 5 -- the drive is open to faculty, staff, students and Ithaca-area residents. Clothing can be new or good-condition used winter hats, coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, boots and other cold-weather articles, which can be dropped off at numerous locations.

On-campus collection boxes will be located at all undergraduate residence halls and community centers, Anabel Taylor Hall, Carpenter Library, Day Hall, East Hill Plaza Division of Financial Affairs, Goldwin Smith Hall, Humphreys Service Building, Mann Library, Martha Van Rensselaer Hall, Olin Library, Sage Hall, Statler Hall, Trillium Dining, university-owned co-ops, Vet Tower, Willard Straight Hall, and Hasbrouck, Maplewood and Schuyler House service centers.

Off-campus collection sites include Wegmans, Tops at Triphammer, Borg-Warner, Collegetown Bagels, NYSEG, Pyramid Mall, Center Ithaca on The Commons, P&C at East Hill Plaza and Triphammer Mall, The Rink in Lansing and Kendal -- and, in Trumansburg, the Big M and Shursave Markets.

All clothing donated on the Cornell campus will be collected through Campus Life Housekeeping Services under the direction of Share the Warmth committee member Dale Walter, assisted by the Ecology House Recycling Committee. Once the clothing has been collected, volunteers will participate in the annual "Big Sort" at the Ecology House on Dec. 6, with the meeting time to be announced. The Big Sort will include members from all sponsoring parties.

Share the Warmth is sponsored by the Ithaca Rotary Club, which is leading the annual drive, Trumansburg Rotary, Ithaca College and Cornell. The clothing will be distributed through the Samaritan Center of Catholic Charities from Dec. 9 through 11.
