United Way officials thank the CU community for its campaign support

Thanks to the generosity of the Cornell community, the 1999 Cornell United Way Campaign has been a terrific success. As of Jan. 5, pledges had reached $582,394 or 110 percent of its goal.

To thank the members of the community, Tompkins County United Way Executive Director James Brown and President of the Board of Directors Thomas P. LiVigne have issued the following letter:

Dear Cornell employees and retirees:

On behalf of the United Way of Tompkins County's board of directors and staff, we have the privilege to acknowledge your generous and unparalleled support of the 1999 county campaign. As countywide employee giving declined, your support has truly saved the day for many local residents. You have made it possible for children, adults, senior citizens and families to receive needed health and human care services throughout the year. The trust you have shown in United Way is greatly appreciated.

Through our volunteer committees, we will ensure careful oversight of your donated funds. Contributions to United Way's Community Fund will be leveraged and distributed to achieve maximum impact for the consumers and member agencies. As always, designated funds will be handled in the manner outlined by donors.

In closing we must note the ongoing support provided by President Rawlings and the tremendous job done by campaign chair Mary Opperman and her team of dedicated volunteers. Best regards and thank you for caring through United Way.

Sincerely,
Thomas P. LiVigne
board president

James A. Brown
executive director
