Newman Hall will be maintained.
·Pedestrians also will be able to access central campus from the new lot.
·Handicapped parking will be available at Helen Newman Hall.
Be Parking Considerate Week: In an effort help ensure access for persons with disabilities, Cornell's Transportation Services -- in conjunction with the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department and Ithaca College Parking Services -- is participating in "Be Parking Considerate Week," beginning Dec. 3. During the holiday season, the hectic pace and crowded parking conditions make parking in handicap spaces very tempting for some without handicapped parking permits -- especially "just for a minute." But parking in those reserved spaces, even briefly, is not only inconsiderate, it's against the law. "In order to be parking considerate, you don't have to go the extra mile, just a few extra yards between your car and a building," said Carl Cohen, Cornell assistant director for commuter and parking services. With this in mind, parking enforcement personnel are going to be extra-vigilant enforcing handicapped parking regulations, whether on the street, in public parking areas or in private parking lots. This special enforcement effort has been coordinated by the Finger Lakes Independence Center and is being conducted with the endorsement and support of the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association.
Single parents event: In the fall of 1999, the Cornell Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality initiated the Sharing Our World Series to give members of the campus community an opportunity to meet others with similar backgrounds and interests. The office is hosting an evening at the Kitchen Theatre in Ithaca for single parents as part of the Sharing Our World Series, Thursday, Dec. 14. The evening includes free admission to the musical production of "John and Jen" at the Kitchen Theatre. The musical tells the story of Jen, a flower child of the '60s facing the harsher realities of the '70s and '80s as a single mother trying to hold onto a precious, fading past, and her relationships with her brother and her son (both named John). Child care will be provided from 6 to 10 p.m. for $2.50 per child, for children ages 18 months to 14 years old and includes a light supper of cheese pizza and beverage. To register for the event, or for more information, contact Erica Mims at leb13@cornell.edu or 255-3976 by Friday, Dec. 8. Due to the limited number of seats in the Kitchen Theatre, reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
