Tickets, ranging from $10 to $17 for adults and $6 to $10 for students, are on sale at the Willard Straight Hall ticket office (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.), at the ticket center in Clinton House (116 N. Cayuga St., Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.) and through the Cornell Concert Series web site at www.arts.cornell.edu/ccs.
The trio -- violinist Burkhard Maiss, violist Philip Douvier and cellist Uwe Hirth-Schmidt -- has performed throughout Europe, Japan and the United States, receiving tremendous acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Nearly unique among today's chamber ensembles, these three musicians play by heart.
Calling their playing "spontaneous and commanding," The New York Times said, "this could be the first string trio in some time to have a major career."
The trio, founded at the Berlin School of Art in 1994, pays homage with its name to the great French violinist Jacques Thibaud. Born in 1880, Thibaud devoted himself to playing trios with his partners, Casals and Cartot, in addition to his activities as soloist. At 73, while still concertizing all over the world, he lost his life in a plane crash.
