| Stacy Lott Savage's "Yew Tree Heads" (1999) is part of the "12 Artists" exhibition of Cornell Council for the Arts grant recipients. |
Starting Saturday, Nov. 11, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art will be a showcase of the talent and diversity that characterizes Cornell.
An exhibition of works by artists funded through the Cornell Council for the Arts (CCA) Individual Grants program will open that day, with performances by artists throughout the afternoon. Also opening on Saturday is the annual exhibition of recent works by members of the Cornell art faculty.
From 5 to 7 p.m., there will be a free, public reception to celebrate these exhibitions, as well as the exhibitions "Collecting and Consumerism in America," organized by art history Professor Laura Meixner, and "Worlds of Transformation: Tibetan Art of Wisdom and Compassion." Monks from the Namgyal Monastery, who are building a sand mandala in the museum, will be chanting from 5 to 5:15 p.m.
On view through Feb. 7, "12 Artists" features the work of artists who, while students at Cornell, received CCA grants from the years 1995-98 to complete and exhibit art projects. This juried exhibition represents the work of artists Spencer Baker, John Barney, Christine Doempke, Kenneth Eisenstein, Pablo García, Yasmin Hernandez-Gartner, Christopher Ho, Stacy Latt Savage, Damon Lee, Sandra Lee, Nathaniel Stern and Jeffrey Whittle.
