Employee/Family Sports Saturday has hockey, spaghetti and basketball

Cornell staff and faculty and their families are invited to take part in the 13th annual Employee/Family Sports Saturday, Feb. 12.

This year's event will kick off at 4 p.m. with the culmination of the Cornell Campus Hockey Tournament in Lynah Rink, during which the tournament's two final teams will go head-to-head on the ice for the campus championship. Following the tournament, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., a spaghetti and meatball or vegetarian sauce dinner will be served in the Field House. After the dinner, beginning at 7:30 p.m., the Cornell men's basketball team will be playing against Brown in Newman Arena.

A drawing will be held at the basketball game, and faculty, staff and retirees will be eligible for a chance to enter the halftime shoot-out contest to win two U.S. Airways round-trip tickets. The Department of Athletics and Physical Education also will be giving away two passes to summer sports camp, two season hockey tickets and two all-sport passes (excluding men's hockey). An entry form can be submitted for the drawing at the game for each ticket purchased. In addition, PawPrint will be sponsoring an earlier drawing for prizes that will be given away at the spaghetti dinner.

Combination tickets for all three events -- the hockey tournament, the dinner and the basketball game -- are $5 each. Separate tickets also are available for the dinner ($3) and the basketball game ($3). Tickets can be purchased through Friday, Feb. 4, at the Campus Store Munch Market; Cornell Recreation Connection Desk, 130 Day Hall; Helen Newman Hall, Room 305; and the Field House ticket office (10 a.m.-5 p.m.).

Alternative activities during the day will include a free tour of the Johnson Museum of Art at 3:30 p.m.; reduced admission to Cornell Cinema's showing of "Microcosmos" in Willard Straight Hall Theatre at 2 p.m. ($2 adults, $1.50 children); free family swimming, 4:15-5:15 p.m., and discounted bowling -- first-come, first-served -- 3-5 p.m. ($1 per game -- with a three game limit -- and $1 per shoe rental), both at Helen Newman Hall.

This annual event is sponsored by employee-elected trustee Cynthia Tkachuck, the Employee Assembly, the Office of Human Resources, the Cornell Recreation Connection, the Department of Athletics and Physical Education, Campus Life Dining and Retail Services, and Facilities and Campus Services.
