Col. Calvin J. Landau, senior southeast regional director in the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, died March 12 in Miami. He was 72.
He enlisted in the Army in 1944 at age 17 and following his discharge the next year, he enrolled at Cornell, graduating in 1948 with a degree in agriculture and as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Artillery. He then had a 30 year career in the Army, stationed in Europe and Asia and participating in the conflicts in Korea and in Vietnam. He retired from military service in 1978 while serving as the assistant chief of staff for the First Army at Ft. Meade, Md. He then joined the General Development Corp., departing 11 years later to work for Cornell as Southeast Regional Office director.
Landau served for many years as a volunteer for the university, including as president of the Cornell Club of Baltimore, president of the Cornell Club of Miami, Cornell fund representative and planned giving chair for the Class of 1948, regional director of the executive board of the Federation of Cornell Clubs, member of the Cornell University Council, member of the Cornell Real Estate Council, member of the Cayuga Society and a member of the Tower Club.
His first wife, Barbara, whom he married in 1953, died in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Ann, of Miami; two daughters, Kathy Landau of Elkridge, Md., and Linda Roden of Ellicott City, Md.; a son, Jeffrey Landau of Springfield, Va.; a brother, Howard Landau of Brigantine, N.J.; four grandchildren; three step-children; and many nieces and nephews.
