Joseph Laquatra, associate professor in the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis, recently returned from Moscow, where he gave guest lectures in research methods to communications classes at Moscow Lomonosov State University. He was invited by Daniel Cullen, currently an instructor there and formerly an instructor in Cornell's Department of Communication. To a group of students in a course on the fundamentals of communications, Laquatra discussed research methodology from the research proposal stage through the survey and data analysis processes and finally to communicating research results. He discussed examples from programs he has developed for Cornell Cooperative Extension, which have included programs on residential energy efficiency, indoor air quality and housing technology. To a class of technical communications students, Laquatra discussed aspects of communicating research results to different audiences, including academics, extension educators, youth audiences, news media personnel and the general public.
