Classroom technology workshop: Cornell has been selected as one of six universities in the United States to host a regional workshop titled "Designing Classrooms for Technology Integration and Accessibility." The daylong, May 18 workshop is a regional follow-up to a national videoconference held in April. Sponsored by the Consortium of College and University Media Centers, the workshop will feature Daniel Niemeyer, a nationally recognized classroom design consultant. Niemeyer, who has a Ph.D. in instructional technology, previously served as director of Academic Media Services at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Joining him will be a panel of local experts. Discussion will focus on classroom layout, lighting, acoustics and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, with the ultimate goal of defining a top-10 list of the most important details in college classroom design. The workshop will be held May 18, 8:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Robert Purcell Community Center Auditorium. It is open to the public, but advance registration is required. To register, visit http://www.indiana.edu/~ccumc/workshop.html. To get the most benefit from the workshop, participants who were not part of the national videoconference should plan to watch the videotaped version on May 11, 2--4 p.m., in 100 Caldwell Hall. Contact Greg Bronson (255-8985 or gb47@cornell.edu) for additional details on the workshop. Cornell participants in the April national videoconference included faculty as well as staff involved with computer labs, classroom design, facilities management, disability services, the libraries and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
