Moving day

Rigger John Dexheimer and his crew ease the Cradit-Moore House onto Pleasant Grove Road May 23. The house was moved to a new site about 1/2 mile north on Pleasant Grove Road as part of the North Campus Residential Initiative. The move was needed to accommodate new residence halls, a new dining hall and relocated recreational fields and courts planned for the new freshman community on North Campus. The move also allows the house to continue to be used as a single-family home. University engineer John Kiefer, project manager Joni Carroll and other Cornell staff have been working with Historic Ithaca and its contractors, Rick Lazarus and Dexheimer, for over a year on the plan to relocate the house. Cornell donated the house to Historic Ithaca and provided the new site. The university also is underwriting the cost of the relocation and the work at the new site.
