Two papers by Roni Michaely, associate professor of finance at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, won prestigious awards at the Western Finance Association (WFA) annual meetings this June in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Michaely's paper "Conflict of Interest and the Credibility of Underwriter Analyst Recommendations (with Kent Womack, Dartmouth College) was the runner-up in the Barclay's Global Investors/Michael Brennan Prize. The paper was published last November in the Review of Financial Studies (Vol. 12, No. 4), and its authors were chosen by the editors of that journal to receive the $5,000 award.

In addition, "The making of a dealer market: From entry to equilibrium in the trading of Nasdaq stocks," co-written with Katrina Ellis, a former doctoral student at the school, and Maureen O'Hara, the R.W. Purcell Professor of Management, won the Nasdaq prize for best paper on capital formation.

In 1999 Michaely, O'Hara and Ellis also received a prize at the WFA meetings for best overall paper for their study "When the underwriter is the market maker: An examination of trading in the IPO aftermarket."
