Ready for firefighting duty

Cornell students, from left, sophomore Brian Finucane, graduate student Joel Cadbury and sophomore Alan Zhou, in front of the Ithaca Fire Department training facility on Willow Avenue, completed a three-week training class in August with the department. During the academic year they will serve as "bunkers" -- certified, trained volunteers who live in fire stations and assist the lifesaving activities of the department's firefighters. Cornell sponsored a picnic Aug. 18 for all the graduates of the residential bunker and volunteer firefighting class. Charles Harrington/University Photography
