Acclaimed for his creativity and innovation, Paul Taylor has been sharing his dances through his two professional dance companies for over 40 years. The Paul Taylor Dance Company-Taylor Two brings his high-energy art to the Cornell Center for Theatre Arts stage for one evening only, Thursday, Sept. 28, at 8.
Tickets for this professional touring troupe are $25 for students and seniors and $30 for the general public. For tickets and information, call 254-ARTS or stop by the CTA box office, 430 College Ave., weekdays from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The Paul Taylor Two Company comprises six dancers with a particular gift for Taylor's choreography style. Taylor Two offers a repertory that reveals the broad spectrum of Taylor's work; the performances introduce audiences to the athleticism, humor and range of emotions inherent in the dances. At Cornell the company will be performing "Aureole," "Profiles," "Duet Private" and "Piazzolla Caldera."
In addition to the performance, Taylor Two will give a master class on the afternoon of Sept. 28 for the benefit of Cornell dance students. The master class offers dance students the opportunity to learn about Taylor's work from professionals who have intimate knowledge of his vocabulary and technique.
Taylor has been a dominant force in dance since his beginnings as a soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company. He is a National Medal of Arts recipient, and he won an Emmy for his dance documentary, "Speaking in Tongues." Taylor's autobiography, Private Domain, recently has been reprinted by the University of Pittsburgh Press and has received critical and popular acclaim.
The Paul Taylor Two Company performance is supported in part by the Cornell Council for the Arts and is the first performance in the 2000-01 Cornell Dance Series.
