Alan Collmer, professor of plant pathology, has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. He was honored for his distinguished career in the study of plant-microbe interactions. His findings include the characterization of genes from bacterial pathogens and explaining the transfer of bacterial proteins into plant cells. The American Academy of Microbiology is the honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology, the world's oldest and largest life science organization.
