Seven of Ithaca's premier chefs have joined together to host "Windows of Hope," a seven-course dinner and silent auction to benefit the families of their food-industry colleagues who were lost in the World Trade Center tragedy. The event is Oct. 14 in the Grand Carrier Ballroom of the Statler Hotel at Cornell. A wine reception is at 6 p.m. and dinner is at 6:30 p.m.
"The executive chefs and benefactors for "Windows of Hope" are Craig Hartman, executive chef, and Robert Morgan, sous chef, Statler Hotel; Dano Hutnic, Dano's on Cayuga, James Larounis, Heights Café and Grill; Renée Senne, Renée's Patisserie; Delmar Crim, Wegman's of Ithaca; Etienne Merle, Valentine's Café; and Anthony Schaefer, student chef. The meal includes signature dishes from Windows on the World, the restaurant that stood atop of the World Trade Center.
Large-screen projectors in the Statler ballroom will allow guests to watch each chef prepare the dishes. Among the services being auctioned are private cooking lessons and in-home dinner parties for four, prepared by the guest chefs.
Minimum donation is $100 per guest. All proceeds go directly to the Windows of Hope Family Relief fund, which will provide immediate emergency aid and future scholarships and funds (see http://www.windowsofhope.org). The fund was established by Ithaca native Tom Valenti and two Windows on the World chefs. For reservations, contact the Statler's special events office, 254-2624.
