Seeking international friendship: The International Students and Scholars Office at Cornell and the International Committee of the Cornell Campus Club is looking for Americans to share their cultures with visiting international students, professors and researchers. Throughout the 50-year history of this program, singles, couples and families in the community have formed many long-lasting and meaningful friendships, and international visitors have been able to return to their countries with a deeper understanding of American culture. Popular activities include family outings, celebrations, holidays or even casual get-togethers. For more information, contact Ann Tompkins at 272-0044 or send e-mail to chuck@bg.org.
Cornell University Press praised: The Resource Conservation Alliance (RCA) recently praised Cornell University Press for the adoption of its environmentally preferable paper purchasing policies. Cornell University Press, 512 E. State St., has announced it will reduce its office paper consumption by 25 percent and require environmentally preferable paper for its book publishing. As part of this effort, the press has notified all of its printers of the intention to switch to environmentally preferable paper by 2003. The paper specified includes products made from post-consumer recycled and agricultural fiber content, as well as chlorine-free paper. "This initiative is an outgrowth of our existing environmental policies," said Deborah Bruner, Cornell University Press production and design manager. "Cornell University Press has always been one of the leading university presses in terms of environmental responsibility," said Leta Huta, RCA director. "As one of the top 10 university presses in size, its latest resolution to use environmentally preferable paper sends a message to the market that the demand for recycled paper is growing." More information about the RCA is available at http://www.rca-info.org.
