D. Tyler McQuade, assistant professor of chemistry and chemical biology, has won a 2001 New Faculty Award from the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation. The award carries a check for $40,000. McQuade, who joined the Cornell faculty July 1 of this year, was one of 11 researchers nationally honored by the foundation. He was selected from 86 nominees for the awards, which are designed to provide external research support to new faculty. McQuade's research group is investigating a biomimetic approach to materials research. Building on the tools acquired through the synthesis of small molecules, the group is attempting to create well-defined polymeric and molecular-based assemblies that mimic the complexity and function of biological materials, from enzymes to organs. The Dreyfus foundation was established in 1946 by chemist, inventor and businessman Camille Dreyfus as a memorial to his brother, Henry, also a chemist, who was his partner in developing the first commercially successful system of cellulose acetate fiber production.

Chekitan Dev, associate professor of strategic marketing in the School of Hotel Administration, has been named a winner of the 2001 W. Bradford Wiley Memorial Research Award by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE). The award recognizes outstanding scholarship in hospitality, travel, tourism and other related fields by CHRIE members. Dev and colleagues James Brown of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Dong-Jin Lee of Binghamton University-State University of New York were honored for their article, "Managing Marketing Channel Opportunism: The Efficacy of Alternative Governance Mechanisms," which was published in the April 2000 issue of the Journal of Marketing. Dev also recently won a 2001 Cornell Hotel School Faculty Research Award, a yearly award granted by the school. He joined the Hotel School faculty in 1989 and teaches and conducts research on strategic marketing, branding, and the market entry and survival strategies of international hotel companies.
