To help introduce to the Cornell community the new members of the
university's faculty, the Cornell Chronicle will be
publishing a series of brief, new-faculty profiles each week during the semester.
Scott Gibson
Associate professor, finance
College: School of Hotel Administration
Academic focus: Current research includes the use of derivative securities
(e.g., put warrants) to reduce corporate funding costs, and the trading behavior of
institutional investors.
Previous position: Assistant professor, Carlson School of Management,
University of Minnesota, 1996-2001; corporate
banking officer, Marine Midland bank, Buffalo,
N.Y., 1988-91; mutual fund financial analyst, Fidelity Investments, Boston, 1987-88.

Laura Harrington
Assistant professor, entomology
College: Agriculture and Life Sciences
Academic focus: Harrington studies the
ecology, epidemiology and the management of human and animal diseases
transmitted by insects. As a medical entomologist,
she has studied the mosquitoes' important disease vectors to feed on humans, blood
feeding preferences and mortality patterns. She will be teaching an entomology course
in fall 2002 and will teach Medical and Veterinary Entomology in the Fall 2003.
Previous position: Postdoctoral researcher, Department of
Entomology, University of California-Davis, 1999-2000.

Technology, 1999-2001.

Beth Milles
Assistant professor, theatre, film and dance
College: Arts and Sciences
Academic focus: Directing, acting, playwriting and adaptation of classical texts.
Previous position: Freelance theatre director, Broadway and regional;
professor, University of Redlands, 1998-2000.
