Kenneth I. Chenault, chairman and CEO of American Express Co., talked about the need for principled business leadership during times of crisis in his Durland lecture in Kennedy Hall's Call Alumni Auditorium Oct. 17. When 11 AmEx employees working in the World Trade Center were lost on Sept. 11 and thousands more witnessing the horrific events in the adjacent World Financial Center were routed from their offices, Chenault called a town meeting to emphasize his concern and reassure staff that the company would endure. He showed clips from the town meeting during his Cornell talk. Above, Johnson School student Jessica Roman '03 listens to Chenault during a reception in Sage Hall following his lecture.
