Cornell Steel Band debuts on Nov. 11

On Sunday, Nov. 11, the Cornell Steel Band makes its debut in a concert slated for 3 p.m. in Barnes Hall. The Steel Band is joined by the Cornell Percussion Ensemble and the Cornell World Drumming Group, all under the direction of James Armstrong. The ensembles will present music from the United States, West Africa, Mexico, Germany and Trinidad, featuring such composers as Steve Reich, Eddie Palmieri and Johann Pachelbel.

Armstrong instructs percussion at Cornell, teaching private lessons, directing the three ensembles and guest lecturing in jazz and world music classes.
