Cornell Dance Concert 2001 is a delightful blend of original choreography, dance and music. A year's worth of hard work for dance students and faculty culminates in this evening of dance theatricality, opening March 8 at 8 p.m. Dance Concert performances continue March 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. and March 11 at 2 p.m. at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $7 for students and seniors and $9 for the general public. Call 254-ARTS for tickets.

Dance Concert 2001 features three exciting dance works. The concert kicks off with a collaborative faculty piece by Jumay Chu and Byron Suber titled "It's More What I Don't Say" The choreography features high energy and big movement and explores the meaning and possibility of boundaries. Senior dance lecturer Jim Self takes his inspiration for the Dance Concert's second piece from a game based on Sufi mysticism. In this multimedia dance play, Self uses texture and film to probe the meaning of the Enneagram. The concert concludes with an eleven-woman dance work by Ellen London '01. The athleticism of this elegant piece shows the strength and community bond of women.

Enhancing the Dance Concert with their design artistry are Andrew Mansfield (scene design), Cynthia Orr Brookhouse (costumes), E.D. Intemann (lighting) and Warren Cross (sound). Dance program coordinator Allen Fogelsanger is designing the program's music in collaboration with Max Buckholtz and Rob Collins.

A discussion will be held following each Dance Concert performance.

Only four shows will be offered. Tickets are available by calling 254-ARTS. Box office hours are 12:30-5:30 p.m., weekdays.
