The Cornell United Way 2000 campaign is continuing, until March 31.
"We're almost there but need the help of the Cornell community before the March 31 deadline to fully meet our goal," said LeNorman Strong, chair of the Cornell campaign this year. "We want to do all we can to help the county meet its goal so that we can continue our good efforts to help one another in our community."
As of March 20, Cornell staff and retirees had pledged $519,926, which is almost 95 percent of this year's goal of $550,000. Contributions to Cornell's campus campaign account for almost one-third of the $1.8 million countywide goal set by United Way of Tompkins County. Cornell leads all the divisions in the county with its percentage of the goal, except the health and human services division, which has met 99.8 percent of its goal. As the county's campaign leader, the Cornell United Way campaign cabinet is working to meet the campaign goal for 2001 United Way agency allocations.
Countywide, the United Way of Tompkins County had received pledges so far of $1,581,005, representing 88 percent of the county goal.
Cornell pledges can be paid through payroll deduction, in a check or with a credit card. United Way tax-deductible donations support more than 100 health and human service programs throughout the county.
