Join other dance enthusiasts for an evening of fresh and innovative dance and choreography at Cornell. "Discursive (1. to move from topic to topic without order) Dancing (1. to move or to seem to move)" is the title of the spring dance theater concert to be held May 3-5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Class of '56 Flexible Theatre of the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. All tickets are $4.
"Students are exploring for the first time different choreography technique and tools, and it has resulted in a very diverse program," said Byron Suber, spring dance theater concert coordinator.
Many of the students have used text and speech in ways that integrate words and movement. Liz Mao, a 2001 American College Dance Festival Gala Performance choreographer, has a new piece featuring a quartet of dancers. Alex Morales contributes a solo piece, and Kerry Huang blends traditional concert dance with text for a dance theater commentary on pop culture. Other student choreographers include Laura Summers, Marlon Daniels and Rebecca Budinoff. Coordinator and dance senior lecturer Suber's piece, "How Do I Mend a Broken Heart," is a humorous and vocal expression of movement and meaning.
To get tickets or information, call or visit the box office in the Schwartz Center, 430 College Ave.; 254-2730.
