Cornell Information Technologies is upgrading the AUDIX voice mail system the weekend of June 1. Because the information in the current system cannot be moved to the new system, CIT is offering all AUDIX users the ability to set up their new mailboxes ahead of time.
From April 15 through May 31, AUDIX users can call 5-5500 (255-5500 off campus) to set up their new mailboxes. It may be helpful to first call AUDIX (4-4444) and write down personal greetings and other custom settings. Groups using AUDIX Automated Attendants or Bulletin Boards will also need to take these steps.
"The 5-5500 number will have the same AUDIX menu you're familiar with," said Diane Sempler, manager of CIT Voice and Data Services. "You'll have to start from scratch, as if you were a brand-new user, but once you've done that, you won't have to think about the upgrade again. When the new system is activated on June 4, you'll dial 4-4444 just like before."
Specifically, AUDIX users need to re-record their greetings and set their password (existing passwords can be used again). Advanced AUDIX settings such as mailing lists, outcalling and call types assigned to personal greetings will also need to be redone. Users are also encouraged to write down the details of saved messages.
Faculty and staff will receive step-by-step instructions in campus mail by April 15. Instructions are also online at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/services/phones/audixhow.html.
The old AUDIX system will be disabled on June 1 at 5 p.m., and the new system will be ready on June 4. Users who do not set up their new mailboxes in advance will be able to do so beginning June 4 by dialing the usual AUDIX number (4-4444).
From June 4 until June 15, users will be able to access messages saved on the old system by dialing 5-5500. After June 15, all messages on that system will be deleted.
