United Way campaign ends at 95 percent of goal

Thanks to the generosity of the Cornell community, the 2000 Cornell United Way Campaign has come to its conclusion, with pledges totaling $519,927, which represents almost 95 percent of the Cornell campaign goal.

"On behalf of the United Way of Tompkins County's board of directors and staff, we have the privilege to acknowledge the generous support of the Cornell community for the 2000 county campaign," said James Brown, executive director of United Way of Tompkins County. "Although countywide employee giving declined in various sectors, Cornell's support has made it possible for children, adults, senior citizens and families to receive needed health and human care services throughout the year."

LeNorman Strong, Cornell's campaign chair this past year, said he was pleased with the donations made by the Cornell community: "Through our efforts, the United Way of Tompkins County will be able to support critical programs throughout the county. Contributions to United Way's Community Fund will be leveraged and distributed to achieve maximum impact for the consumers and member agencies. And, as always, designated funds will be handled in the manner outlined by donors."

Strong expressed appreciation and thanks for the ongoing support of President Hunter Rawlings and for the hard work of the Cornell United Way Campaign cabinet, deputies in each division and, of course, the wide array of generous donors across campus.

"Thank you for helping us to care for one another by expressing your caring through support for our county United Way," Strong concluded.
