Uncommon Threads

Clothing as art is focus of Johnson Museum exhibition that runs through June 17

Above, U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-26th Dist.) helps kick off the March 31 reception for the Johnson Museum's "Uncommon Threads: Contemporary Artists and Clothing" exhibition. Below left, artist Lisa Yetz poses with her untitled creation (1999) made from Abaca paper, pigment and Mop & Glo floor cleaner. Right, Cat Chow displays her "Yellow Power Ranger Kimono" (1998), made of split image Power Ranger cards and brass rings. Both artists, like many in the exhibition, deal with the absent bodies and personalities that might, or could, wear these clothes. The exhibition runs through June 17.
