United Way seeks CU volunteers for service day

Help your community. Show you care. Participate in the United Way of Tompkins County's 2001 "Day of Caring," Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Volunteers are needed to do chores in the community, such as paint, organize, clean and perform office tasks for one of the United Way's member agencies. According to Cornell campus campaign leaders, volunteers, upon approval of their supervisors, will receive paid release time to participate in the fifth annual "Day of Caring" and may express their preferences for the type of volunteer work they desire.

"Please join your Cornell colleagues and members of the community in putting our commitment to service into action by signing up to participate in the Day of Caring," said LeNorman Strong, this year's Cornell United Way campaign chair.

On Sept. 12, volunteers from Cornell will join forces with other community volunteers at Stewart Park at 9 a.m., receive free Day of Caring T-shirts and refreshments and meet with representatives from the agencies to which they are assigned. The guest speaker for the day is President Hunter Rawlings. Volunteers will then work at their host agencies, receiving a complimentary lunch, through completion of their projects, no later than 4:30 p.m. CU Day of Caring volunteers will be recognized at an on-campus event later in September.

To volunteer send e-mail to dayofcaring@cornell.edu or call 255-8206.
