The new PBS television series, "Evolution: A Journey Into Where We're From and Where We're Going," includes a segment on the work of Cornell's Stephen T. Emlen. The J.G. Schurman professor of neurobiology and behavior speaks in the series' fifth episode, "Why Sex?" about fidelity and infidelity in socially monogamous birds, as well as the paradox of sexual selection in reverse, using footage of his research with jacana birds in Panama. The seven-part series begins Sept. 24 on local PBS stations, including WCNY in Syracuse and WSKG in Binghamton. The episode with Emlen's research, together with another episode, "The Evolutionary Arms Race," are scheduled for broadcast on WCNY Sept. 26 beginning at 8 p.m., and repeating Sept 27 at 1 and 4 p.m.
