Frankenstein-related events this week

  • Monster Talk at TCPL: "Big, Green and Out of Control: Frankenstein in Film," David Kirby, science and technology studies, Oct. 3, 7 p.m., Tompkins County Public Library (TCPL).

  • Frankenstein Fridays: "Gods and Monsters," directed by Bill Condon, with Ian McKellen, Brendan Fraser and Lynn Redgrave, Oct. 4, 7 p.m., Uris.

  • Monster Mondays: Beginning Oct. 7, the TCPL's Youth Services Department offers themed programming to children 7 years old and up every Monday through Nov. 25, from 4 to 5 p.m. Registration is required; call 272-4557.

  • Exhibit reception: A public reception for "Frankenstein -- Penetrating the Secrets of Nature" will be Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at TCPL. Yale Universitymedical historian Susan Lederer will lead a tour.

  • Monster Talk: "Mutants, Hopeful Monsters, Chimeras and Frankenfoods," Jeffrey Doyle, plant biology, Oct. 9, 8:30 p.m., auditorium, Robert Purcell Community Center.
