Those looking for an interesting and safe activity for Halloween need look no further. Come -- in costume, if you wish -- to Sage Chapel tonight, Oct. 31, at 8 to hear an evening of music written for the organ and transcribed for the organ -- some silly, some spooky and some occasionally even serious. The performers include University Organist Annette Richards and David Yearsley, both members of the music faculty, and students Kelly Bolton, Mark Wyman, Catherine Oertel, Emily Sensenbach and Michael Clarkson.
Yearsley sets the mood by opening with that familiar Bach work, Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565, followed by Richards playing Phantômes, from Pièces de Fantaisie by Vierne. Clarkson and Oertel play a duet version of "Mars, the Bringer of War" from Holst's The Planets. And Richards and Yearsley end the concert with a duet transcription of Rossini's Overture to the opera William Tell. Also included are works by Lefébure-Wély, Boëllmann, Brahms, Buxtehude, Rinck, Bellini and Arvo Pärt. So put on your costume and join the fun in Sage Chapel on Halloween.
