| Nancy Rosen, right, executive director of Suicide Prevention and Crisis Service of Tompkins County -- a United Way agency -- addresses a group of Cornell United Way volunteers on Oct. 21 in Day Hall, while Ann Colt, director of campaign and community relations for United Way of Tompkins County, looks on. Rosen explains that SPCS not only provides confidential 24-hour telephone counseling, but also preventive education in crisis intervention and suicide prevention and "postvention" for people who have lost someone to suicide or any other traumatic incident. With a better understanding of the human service agency programs that are supported by the United Way, the volunteers inform colleagues on the value of donating to the United Way campaign. As of Nov. 5, $380,356 has been pledged from the Cornell community for the United Way campaign, which is 67.9 percent of this year's campus goal. Robert Barker/University Photography |
