What would your 13-year-old self say to you today? How has life changed who you are, your expectations and your belief in the power of dreams? Triplet, a thoughtful one-act play by Kitty Johnson, offers a glimpse into the postponed dreams of one woman whose life hasn't turned out exactly as planned.
On her wedding day (which is also her birthday), the Bride is haunted by the expectations of the women she once was -- the Virgin and the Princess. Their words, saturated with the dreams and plans that she had once made for her life, force the Bride to come to terms with her successes and her failures, her loves and her losses, before crossing this next bridge -- leaving behind her childhood forever. The play is a poignant and, at times, comic reconciliation with life and the hand it deals us, ending with an acknowledgment of the value -- and necessity -- of reality.
Triplet features the talents of Cornell students Krystal Bowden '05, Sara Clemens '05 and Darra Messing '04. The play is directed by Peggy Powers '03.

Four times a year, the Black Box Series offers students valuable opportunities to assume commanding directing, design and acting roles in small-budget projects. The series allows the Cornell Department of Theatre, Film and Dance to feature its finest young talent in an experimental environment and is made possible through the generosity of Cornell alumni Leah Shampanier Gould and Harold Gould.
