Meet Assembly candidates: There will be an informal opportunity to meet this year's Employee Assembly candidates Wednesday, March 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the International Lounge of Willard Straight Hall.
Free blood-pressure clinics: Approximately 50 million Americans, ages 6 and older, have high blood pressure. And a third of those with high blood pressure don't even know they have it. Once detected, high blood pressure is usually controllable. Beginning Tuesday, March 26, free blood pressure checks will be available in the main lobby of Gannett Health Center on Mondays from 3 to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. This service is open to the Cornell community and will be available through the end of spring semester classes. Chimes music recordings: The Cornell chimesmasters will be recording music for an upcoming compact disc on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 22-24. During the afternoon of March 22 and the days of March 23 and 24, the chimes in McGraw Tower will be played for long periods of time. The chimesmasters have expressed the hope that the campus community will enjoy the sound of the bells during this weekend. Luce Scholarship: One-year internship in Asia open to all career fields. Applications are sought from those under 30 years old who have made a significant contribution to their career field. Rhodes Scholarship: Two years of support at Oxford University in any field. A cappella success: Last Call, an all-male a cappella group from Cornell, has advanced to the finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. In taking the first place trophy at the semifinals, held March 9 at Lafayette College, Last Call won the opportunity to represent the Mid-Atlantic Region at the International Finals, to be held in Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, April 28. During its three years of participation, Last Call has gone to the semifinals two times and is now the first group ever from Cornell to advance to the finals, in which the 14-member group will face five of the best groups in North America. Women's studies fellowship: Cornell graduate students whose dissertation will focus on women or gender issues are invited to apply for dissertation fellowship for 2002-03 sponsored by the Women's Studies Program. The fellowship will provide tuition, fees, health insurance and a stipend for one semester during 2002-03. The application deadline is April 19. Application requirements include a cover page with name, Social Security number, major field, special committee, year of entry to Cornell, date of expected Ph.D., application date and signature, dissertation proposal, Cornell transcript, summary of fellowship and other financial support to date, and three letters of recommendation.
