Soprano Sara Lozyniak, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, presents a voice recital in Barnes Hall tonight, March 14, at 8. Assisted by pianist Blaise Bryski, Lozyniak opens with two arias each from Samson and Ode for St. Cecilia's Day, both by George Frideric Handel. Between the two Handel works, two arias from Gian Carlo Menotti's chamber opera, The Medium, will be presented. The second half of the program is devoted to J.S. Bach's soprano solo cantata, Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, BWV 51, written for the 15th Sunday after Trinity. The instrumental ensemble for the cantata includes harpsichord, trumpet and string quartet -- all Cornell students.
Lozyniak has studied voice with Associate Professor Judith Kellock for three years. She has sung as a soloist with the Cornell Chorale and the Sage Chapel Choir and currently is exploring an interest in the performance of Baroque music.
Bryski is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and he received his master of fine arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He is in the process of completing his doctorate in 18th-century performance practice at Cornell, and he currently is a core member of Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co.
