Donald Keck, vice president and executive director of Corning Inc.'s research, science and technology division, is the featured speaker at "Technology Means Business" on Cornell's campus this Friday, March 8. Keck is one of three Corning scientists credited with making long-distance optical-fiber communication possible, as well as the winner of numerous awards for his contributions to the field of photonics.
The Sixth Annual Technology Symposium is an all-day event, open to the public, with three separate technology panels, one on media communication, one on manufacturing operations and one on health care. It will take place at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, B-09 Sage Hall. Admission is $10 in advance; $15 at the event. The event begins at 8:40 a.m. with a welcome from Johnson School Dean Robert Swieringa, followed by Keck's address at 8:45.
"The Convergence of Information, Communications and Entertainment" is the topic for the 10 a.m. panel discussion, which features Professor Richard Conway and executives from CCBN, Hewlett-Packard, Sprint PCS and Virage. "Advances in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Operations through ERP [enterprise resource planning] Implementation" is the subject of the 12:30 p.m. panel featuring Professor L. Joseph Thomas and representatives from Dell and Johnson & Johnson. "Delivering Quality Healthcare Through Innovative Information Technology Solutions" will be discussed at the 2:15 p.m. panel, which includes Professor Bruce Ganem and participants from Mirella Media, Noteworthy Medical Systems and Pfizer. Conway and Thomas are chaired professors of manufacturing and operations management at the Johnson School, where Conway teaches the e-business immersion course. Ganem is a professor of chemistry at Cornell who holds a chair in entrepreneurship with the university's Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise program.
