Flute and harpsichord featured in April 12 concert

On Friday, April 12, guest artist Linda Marianiello, assisted by keyboardist Mitchell Vines, presents a concert of works from the Baroque period and the 20th century in Barnes Hall at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The first half of the program features the early flute with harpsichord on two works from the Baroque. The duo opens with Handel's Sonata in E Minor, op. 1, no. 1b, followed by J.S. Bach's Sonata in B Minor, BWV 1030. They then will play Emma Lou Diemer's Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord from 1958. The second half of the program features Carl Mansker's Danza y Fuga VI for flute and piano, op. 33, from 1988. Before and after the Mansker work, Marianiello and Vines will perform two works by Roberto Sierra, Cornell professor of composition: Eros, written for flute and piano in 1996, and Flower Pieces, composed in 1994.

"Linda Marianiello is a flutist with a vision, who showed a commitment to excellence in performance as well as innovative repertory," said the Washington Post. Her credits include concerto appearances with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, performances at world-renowned European festivals and on many well-known concert series throughout America.

Vines has performed throughout the United States, Europe, South America and East Asia as a soloist and collaborative pianist. His extensive experience includes positions with the Aspen Music Festival, Mannes School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, Opera Theater of Rochester, the Riverside Piano Trio and Cunard Cruise Lines, as well as music directing for theater, opera and cabaret.
