CU commission's web site invites suggestions on land-grant mission

The Land Grant Oversight Commission, appointed by President Hunter Rawlings to review Cornell's land-grant mission and make recommendations for reshaping that mission for the 21st century, has established a web site and is seeking widespread input.

The 11-person Oversight Commission, appointed in February and chaired by Rawlings, is coordinating the work of five panels of faculty, staff and trustees who are assessing existing programs and charting new directions for outreach and technology transfer. The panels are assessing cooperative extension programs; the role of engineering economic development; technology transfer; and Cornell's contributions to K-12 education.

"President Rawlings has asked us to define Cornell's unique contributions to New York state as the land-grant university and how we should reshape the land-grant mission for the future," said Francille Firebaugh, vice provost for land-grant affairs and special assistant to the president. "We invite you, through our web site, to offer your commentary and suggestions to inform and guide us in these deliberations." The web site is located at http://provost.cornell.edu/land_grant/mission_review/.

Each of the five panels has a link on the site, with specific questions relating to that panel. Panel liaisons have established special mailboxes on the site to receive feedback. The liaisons include:
