CorporateTime has a new owner and updated software with new features

By Beth Goelzer Lyons

What's new with CorporateTime? Updated software and new corporate owners. More than 6,000 faculty and staff at Cornell currently schedule meetings and manage their personal calendars with this university-sponsored tool.

Much-requested features and bug fixes are welcome additions to the new versions of CorporateTime for Windows, Solaris and Linux. CorporateSync for Palm and Pocket PC has also been updated. Perhaps the biggest news is Oracle Corporation's June acquisition of Steltor Corp., the company that makes CorporateTime.

By the end of 2002, Oracle is expected to release a new version of CorporateTime, to be called Oracle Calendar. That software will integrate with Oracle's other applications.

In the meantime, Cornell Information Technologies encourages Windows users to upgrade to CorporateTime version 6 and Linux and Solaris users to upgrade to version 5.0.1. Details about new features and installation instructions are at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/calendar/v6/ . Upgrading CorporateTime on university-owned computers should be done in consultation with the technology support staff for the department or unit. (Regarding Macintosh, prior to Oracle's acquisition, an upgrade was expected by December 2002.)

New features in Windows version 6 include a streamlined process for assigning access rights to multiple users; an easy way to see a group agenda of the people invited to a meeting; a redesigned meeting editor; the ability to customize meeting colors; and several enhancements to e-mail notifications and reminders.

New features in Solaris/Linux version 5.0.1 include enhancements in security, text searching, import/export formats, e-mail notifications, and reminders.

CorporateSync users are also encouraged to upgrade to v ersion 3.0.1 to take advantage of several new features. CorporateSync is a tool for synchronizing CorporateTime information between a desktop computer and a Palm, Pocket PC, Windows CE or Psion device. Unlike CorporateTime, there is a licensing fee for CorporateSync. Users who have renewed their licenses for 2002 can upgrade for free. Licensing details are at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/software/licenses/corpsync.html.
