Voter registration efforts: The university's Office of Government Affairs has been, and will be, engaged in assisting voter registration efforts on campus this fall. Voter registration cards are being made available in each college's registrar's office and at the Information and Referral Center in Day Hall. Ads about voter registration will be placed in local papers at the end of September and in early October, before the Oct. 11 registration deadline, and e-mail messages will be sent next month to the entire campus as a reminder. The office and its student volunteers also will be providing assistance to an upcoming voter registration drive by the Cornell Political Coalition, a student group. And a link will be set up from the government affairs office web site to a voter registration site.
Fulbright information session: For those interested in advanced study or research abroad, there will be an informational meeting for the Fulbright Program for the 2003-04 academic year on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m. in G08 Uris Hall. Eligibility requirements for Fulbright candidates include: U.S. citizenship and a bachelor's degree earned prior to September 2003. ESL classes: Registration for the Cornell Campus Club's ESL (English as a Second Language) classes at the beginner, intermediate, advanced and TOEFL levels is Sept. 4 in The Café of Anabel Taylor Hall, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Classes begin the second week of September. A schedule for classes is available at Maplewood Park and Hasbrouck apartments, Day Hall and the International Students and Scholars (ISSO) office. CUP design award: The Cornell Police department has received an award for the design of its police vehicles in a contest co-sponsored by Law and Order magazine and 3M Co. The design, which features McGraw Tower, was awarded third place in the state/federal category in the 2002 Best Police Vehicle Design Competition. Sgt. Daniel N. Murphy Jr. chaired the committee that developed the design. The award carries a $100 prize, which will be donated to the Cops, Kids & Toys of Tompkins County program.
Strategic management course: The School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions will present "Strategic Management in Higher Education: Maximizing Your Organization's Performance," Nov. 3-6, on campus. This fast-paced, three-day program is designed to help senior and midlevel administrative and academic leaders develop a strategic management system that can be easily adapted and implemented at their organizations. The program charge of $975 includes course materials; a certificate of completion and a welcoming reception, one dinner and three lunches. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available.
