Gary A. Rendsburg, the Paul and Berthe Hendrix Memorial Professor of Jewish Studies in the Department of Near Eastern Studies, recently participated in the "International Workshop on Israelian Hebrew" at Tsukuba University in Tsukuba, Japan, July 29-Aug. 1. The workshop was supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science and Culture as a means to allow scholarly exchange on Rendsburg's ongoing research into ancient Hebrew dialects.
Murray B. McBride, professor of environmental soil chemistry in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, received the 2002 Teaching Award from the Northeast Branch of the American Society of Agronomy and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) for his outstanding textbook focusing on terrestrial environmental chemistry, his creativity and dedication as a teacher, his ability to integrate his research into his undergraduate and graduate curricula, and his contributions to an emerging environmental sciences undergraduate major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His numerous contributions to soil science courses and seminar series also were recognized. McBride is a fellow of the SSSA.
