A Faculty Forum on "Cornell's Land Grant Missions" will be held Sept. 25 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Bache Auditorium of Malott Hall.
The forum will include a panel and discussion of the university's Land Grant Mission Review, which was initiated by President Hunter Rawlings and Provost Biddy Martin last February. Five panels of faculty, staff and trustees, appointed by Rawlings and Martin, have been assessing existing programs and charting the direction of future policies and programs related to Cornell's land grant university missions.
The program panelists for this Faculty Forum are leaders and active participants in the review process, said Francille Firebaugh, vice provost for land grant affairs and special assistant to the president. Firebaugh is moderating the forum, which is free and open to the public.
"Exchange of ideas and input from faculty who are not directly involved in the review process are critical aspects of the review," Firebaugh said. "The timing of the discussion is scheduled to influence and impact the final reports."
The five review panels and forum speakers include: "Outreach/Extension: Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Human Ecology, and Veterinary Medicine," Malden Nesheim, professor emeritus of nutritional sciences and review panel chair, and Ronald Ehrenberg, the Irving M. Ives Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations, co-chair; "Outreach/Extension: Industrial and Labor Relations," David Butler, dean of the School of Hotel Administration and review panel chair; "Engineering Outreach: Economic Development, "Clifford Pollock, the I. and C. Lee Professor of Engineering and review panel co-chair; "K-12 Education," Biddy Martin, review panel co-chair, and Marianne Krasny, associate professor of natural resources, respondent; and "Technology Transfer," W. Ronnie Coffman, professor and chair of the Department of Plant Breeding and review panel chair. Respondent is Charles Walcott, professor of neurobiology and behavior.
Preliminary reports of the panels are available electronically at http://www.provost.cornell.edu/land_grant/mission_review.
