Town-gown forum: Those who have questions about various Cornell offices, organizations and initiatives that have regular campus-Ithaca community dealings can attend a special community forum Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 5:30 p.m. at the Women's Community Building, 100 W. Seneca St., in downtown Ithaca. The forum will provide an opportunity for community members to ask those questions and learn more about various campus-based groups in one setting. Representatives will attend from the Public Service Center, Office of Economic Development, Community Relations, Cornell-Ithaca Partnership, The Cornell Tradition, School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Dean of Students Office/Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, K-12 Outreach and Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality. English for visiting scholars: A noncredit course will be offered at Cornell for visiting academicians who seek improvement in any basic English-language skills, particularly speaking and listening comprehension. All language-learning activities will be oriented toward what will be most useful to the scholars during their stay here. Practice in speaking and pronunciation will include formal presentations and individual help with pronunciation problems. In addition to the weekly classes, field trips are regularly scheduled to provide opportunities for discussion with native English speakers and insight into American culture and history. Classes will be held in Room 183 Rockefeller Hall from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evenings, beginning Jan. 27 and ending May 12. The program fee is $450. Campus Club ESL classes: Registration for the Cornell Campus Club's ESL (English as a Second Language) classes for adults will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cafe in Anabel Taylor Hall. The fee is $20 for the spring semester (no refunds) for up to three classes per week.
Spanish, Portuguese classes:The Committee on U.S.-Latin American Relations (CUSLAR) offers beginning and intermediate Spanish and Portuguese classes for the Cornell and Ithaca community.
