Expo to focus on technology in support of teaching

Cornell instructors interested in integrating technology into their teaching can learn about the many campus services available to help them at Learning and Teaching with Technology, in G01 and G10 of the Biotechnology Building, Oct. 13 and 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day. Sponsored by the Cornell Unified Service Working Group, the two-day event will include presentations on various services and technologies in addition to featuring information booths hosted by the participating service providers. The program will include topics such as instructional design, assessment of program impact on student learning, content development and management, integration of digital library resources and services, web hosting and maintenance, video streaming, webcasting and videoconferencing. There will be demonstrations by faculty members who are already using technologies, including projects that have been developed through the Faculty Innovation in Teaching Grants program. Live streaming of various speakers will also occur during the expo.

"Our goal is to heighten awareness of the different ways in which technology can enhance learning as well as the comprehensive resources available to faculty who want to integrate technology into their teaching," said Joan Getman of Cornell Information Technologies, one of the sponsors of the event. Oya Rieger of Cornell University Library added: "There are a number of organizations that provide complimentary services, and this may cause confusion over where to turn to for help. This event will show instructors how they can get advice and assistance from a variety of campus sources."

In addition to CIT and Cornell Library, other participants in the expo are the Center for Learning and Teaching, Communication and Marketing Strategies and the School of Continuing Education.
