Midday concerts resume at Lincoln

Today, Oct. 2, the Department of Music resumes its new daytime concert series, Midday Music at Lincoln. On most Thursdays throughout the year from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., Lincoln Hall plays host to informal chamber music concerts, featuring performances by Cornell faculty and students. The 45-minute-long recitals will take place in the Neylan Rehearsal Hall (B-20 Lincoln), a large, two-story space with cherry hardwood floors and two matched Steinway grand pianos -- complete with integrated lighting, recording and presentation technologies.

As German theatrical producer Berthold Auerbach once said, "Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take a break from their routines and catch a free concert in Lincoln Hall. They will have the opportunity to hear inspiring music and the chance to explore the Department of Music's home, located on the Arts Quad.

Highlights include performances by soprano Judith Kellock and pianist Xak Bjerken, who present songs of Hugo Wolf on Oct. 2; fortepianists Shane Levesque and Nicholas Mathew on Oct. 30 and Nov. 13, respectively; and the Bloomquist Ensemble, with visiting scholar Eiichi Nakamura on transverse flute, on Nov. 6.

The full schedule for the fall follows:
