Ritch C. Savin-Williams, professor of clinical and developmental psychology, has been named chair of the Department of Human Development, effective Aug. 25, for a five-year term. An expert on sexual minorities and sexual-minority youth, Savin-Williams is also a licensed clinical psychologist and author or editor of several books, including Mom, Dad. I'm Gay: How Families Negotiate Coming Out (American Psychological Association, 2001); ... And Then I Became Gay: Young Men's Stories (Routledge Publishers, 1997) and the first college text on lesbians, gays and bisexuals, The Lives of Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals: Children to Adults (Harcourt Brace, 1996). Savin-Williams completed his B.A. at the University of Missouri (1971), M.A. in religious studies (1973) and Ph.D. in human development (1977) at the University of Chicago and trained at a clinical psychology program at the University of Massachusetts (1989-93).
