CU campus resource expo, Nov. 18, will counsel budding entrepreneurs

Those on the Cornell campus with dreams of starting their own company will have an opportunity to learn from the experts on Tuesday, Nov. 18. An Entrepeneurs' Resource Expo, in G10 Biotechnology Building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will bring together all the Cornell-affiliated resources that the budding start-up company will need. Advice will be available for faculty, students and staff. Admission is free.

The expo is being organized by Abby Westervelt, director of corporate and foundation relations in the College of Engineering; Roger Williams, director of technology transfer at the Institute for Biotechnology and Life Science Technologies; and Pat Govang, industrial partnership director for the Cornell Center for Materials Research. It is sponsored by Cornell's Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise Program, part of the Cornell Entrepreneur Network.

"This is the first time we have attempted such an event on campus," said Westervelt. "We have never before pulled together such a diverse group from across campus."

Representatives from many campus groups will be available to discuss ways they can assist business startups. Also taking part will be representatives from local companies with Cornell ties, many of which have been launched from Cornell-developed technology.

Participating campus groups will include the Cornell Research Foundation, Cornell Real Estate, the Big Red Venture Fund, the Big Red Incubator, Entrepreneurship Legal Services, the Institute for Biotechnology and Life Science Technologies and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
