Weekend Korean Film Festival

The Cornell Korean Students Association is hosting the 17th annual Korean American Students Conference, KASCON XVII, March 13-16, and Cornell Cinema is presenting a mini Korean Film Festival as part of the activities. (Read about the conference.) Both of the films being shown were screened as part the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival's Harvest: South Korean Renaissance film series. Check the Chronicle calendar listings for dates and times.

"Take Care of My Cat," right, the feature film debut of Jeong Jae-eun, is a breezy exploration of life after high school for five girlfriends living in the port city of Inchon.

The second film, "Chihwaseon," above, is by Korean master filmmaker Im Kwon-taek, who turned the international cinema spotlight on South Korea when he shared best director honors at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival (with Paul Thomas Anderson). "Chihwaseon" is the story of notorious 19th-century painter Jang Seung-up.

All of the screenings will take place in Willard Straight Theatre and are co-sponsored with the East Asia Program. Ticket prices: $6 general, $5 students and seniors, and $4 Cornell graduate students. For more information call 255-3522 or visit http://cinema.cornell.edu.
